Anchored by Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton, the Lehigh Valley is a burgeoning
tourist area in southeastern Pennsylvania, just north of Philadelphia. The area
is historically important for its production of steel and coal, but now attracts
visitors with modern attractions and exciting events. Allentown is a destination
rife with recreational opportunities and scenic parks, including the Cedar Beach
Area, the Old-Fashioned Rose Town and Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom. Three
institutions of higher education, as well as the Kemerer Museum of Decorative
Arts, are located in Bethlehem. Easton, one of America's earliest industrial
centers, is home to the Crayola Factory, which offers tours that show how crayons
are molded, labeled and packed, as well as interactive exhibits and craft stations
for children. Every July, Whitehall is abuzz with blues musicians for the Lehigh
Valley Blues Fest, an extravaganza of concerts, open jams and fun activities.
